National Theater
The Oslo National Theatre (Nationaltheatret) opened in 1899. The building is situated near both the Royal Castle and the Old University at the center of town. The theater is one of five stages serving as Norway's national theaters. It is Norwayís primary theatrical facility. More than 200 staff members, including 70 of Norwayís finest actors, work at the theater. Featuring lavish interior dÈcor, the Nationaltheatret hosts the international Ibsen State Festival every other year. Outside the facility is a statue of Bjørnstjerne Bj¯rnson, who wrote the countryís national anthem and garnered a Nobel Peace Prize. He is considered Norwayís most famous writer.
